An international student laments and offers advice
"One after another, fellow graduate students ended their talks by acknowledging support from prestigious fellowships. When it was my turn, I had no fancy awards to mention—just a nod of thanks to my adviser and university. It felt like an admission that I didn’t belong in the same league. Yet deep down I knew it wasn’t because of a lack of ability. The real barrier was citizenship: Most of the fellowships were restricted to U.S. citizens and permanent residents."
