New Graduate Student Orientations

New Graduate Student Orientation is scheduled to take place in a hybrid schedule: a live 3-hour webinar held on Zoom and an online portal accessible for one year to all new graduate students and containing information about a variety of important topics (i.e., academic policies and degree information, Financial Aid and graduate student funding, Campus Care, housing on and off campus, commuter student resources, UIC Police and campus safety).

This mandatory Campus-Wide New Teaching Assistant (TA) Orientation is hosted by the Center for the Advancement of Teaching Excellence (CATE) in partnership with the Graduate College. This orientation consists of asynchronous videos and resources and workshops, which are held each fall beginning in August, and is designed to supplement departmental-based orientations and training for new graduate student teaching assistants.

Fall 2026 TA Orientation

Workshops will be held in person and via Zoom beginning the week of August 17 and throughout the beginning of the semester, including a number of in-person workshop opportunities on the afternoon of Wednesday, August 19. Registration for individual workshops will be available in late July and updated asynchronous resources and videos will be available by mid-August.
