Diversifying Higher Education Faculty in Illinois Fellowship

Spring 2026 Competition

Program Purpose

The Diversifying Higher Education Faculty in Illinois (DFI) Program was established by the Illinois General Assembly and signed into law as Public Act 104-0437.  The purpose of the DFI Program is to encourage students to enroll and complete academic programs at the post-baccalaureate level and to enhance the diversity of faculty and staff of Illinois institutions of higher education.

DFI Program provides financial assistance, based on demonstrated merit and financial need, for students who meet the eligibility criteria outlined in Public Act 104-0437 and this application and who are pursuing full-time enrollment in graduate or professional degree programs at eligible Illinois public institutions of higher education.

  • Award Duration: Spring 2026 (Only)
  • Funding: $7,500 (minimally)
  • Service Commitment: Recipients agree to seek full-time employment in Illinois higher education or an educational-related state position for a period equal to the years of fellowship support. Failure to meet this condition may result in repayment of 20% of the cumulative award amount.
