Mentor, Boss, Parent, Friend or Archenemy? Creatively Navigating Advisor and Committee Relationships

April 16, 2025

4:00 PM - 5:00 PM CST

Location

650 University Hall, Zoom

Address

601 South Morgan St., Chicago, IL 60607

For many students, one of the most challenging aspects of graduate school is navigating relationships with advisors and committee members. Do you feel like your advisor serves as a professional mentor, or do you respond to them more like a parent? Is your advisor someone you think of as a friend, or do you try to avoid them unless you have to interact? Has your relationship with your advisor or other research supervisors affected your work, thinking, and perhaps even your progress in graduate school?

In this Graduate Appreciation Week session, we will speak frankly (but confidentially) about navigating relationships with your advisor and other mentors. We'll discuss ways to creatively re-think and manage your responses, as well as daily practices that can help improve your interactions and relationships.
