Paula Chambers of The Versatile PhD Coming to UIC


Are you pursuing a PhD and while the market for tenure-track positions is shrinking? Now what? Well, a graduate degree demonstrates not only specialized training, but also the accumulation of several skill-sets. Your PhD makes you more versatile than perhaps you ever imagined.
As was announced previously, the Graduate College at UIC has purchased institutional membership to, allowing the greater UIC community access to the premium content on the site. Founded by Dr. Paula Chambers, The Versatile PhD, LLC is an online resource for PhD students and postdocs from all disciplines seeking information on academic and non-academic careers.  In addition, you will be able to network with others, participate in panel discussions, and access valuable material written by actual “Versatile PhDs.”  And, Dr. Chambers is coming to UIC.


The Graduate College and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences are proud to announce a full-day of events involving Dr. Paula Chambers, the founder and face of The Versatile PhD, on Friday, March 16, 2012.  We expect demand to exceed capacity. (Special accomodations will be prompted in the registration sites below.) I. Keynote Presentation On Friday, March 16, 2012, Dr. Chambers will give a keynote presentation that will be followed by a Q&A discussion from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. in Student Center East, Illinois Rooms A&B.  Registration is required.  Please join us for the keynote and RSVP at

II. Student Small-Group Discussions

A select number of students will have the chance to meet with Dr. Chambers in a small group format for more individual attention. Priority will be given to PhD students. There are three available time slots for these groups. Very limited space is available for these small group discussions. Location will be provided in a seperate email once registration is confirmed.  All of these sessions occur on Friday, March 16, 2012. Registration is required.

A session for post-docs will occur from 3:30 - 4:00 p.m.  Registration for that will occur through the Post-doc Association.
