Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the US and Canada who are enrolled full-time at the US or Canadian college or university that nominates them, or, in the case of international students, must be enrolled in a degree program at a US or Canadian college or university and been living in the US or Canada for a year by the time of the application deadline.
Students seeking master's level study in art, architecture, design, film, music, performing arts, and visual communication do not participate in the campus process. See below. Students seeking a master's degree in all other disciplines can be considered for the campus's priority competition for master's study AND dissertation research awards of 6-12 months.
UIC may nominate two priority candidates.

**Applicants must contact Benn Williams, Director of Fellowships & Awards and DAAD advisor two weeks before this deadline.**
Individuals interested in a research stay of < six months must apply directly to DAAD and there are two competitions annually. Individuals interested in the disciplines below must apply directly to DAAD. UIC is not part of these processes.
Architecture-a Master's degree/postgraduate degree leading to a final qualification or a complementary course that does not lead to a final qualification (not an undergraduate course) at a state or state-recognized German university. Deadline: September 23.
Music-Degree studies: A Master's degree/postgraduate course leading to a degree. Funding for postgraduate studies is available for the 2nd cycle (Master’s degree) or 3rd cycle (Konzertexamen, Meisterklasse); Advanced studies without a degree: either as part of graduate studies at UIC that include a stay in Germany, or as part of an independent project. A connection to a college of music in Germany is mandatory. Deadline: September 24.
Performing Arts-a Master's degree/postgraduate degree leading to a final qualification or a complementary course that does not lead to a final qualification (not an undergraduate course) at a state or state-recognized German university. Deadline: October 15.
