PANGAEA: Return to the Supercontinent
Jennifer Nguyen, Architecture
The world as it exists is a series of isolated islands. Pangaea is a return to the Supercontinent. It is a single island that values proximity and expedient connections. Its city is comprised of a tapered towers and elevated paths that provide infinite networks. Pangaea addresses the social and economical concerns through physical unification.
The physical model was constructed using three-dimensional parametric modeling software. By studying the Fibonacci spiral, a script was developed in order to manipulate the mathematic equation to form a three-dimensional form appropriate for the design of the city. This virtual model was transformed into a physical model through laser cutting technologies and the patient layering of 1/16" thick chipboard for a high-resolution experience.
