On March 12, 2009 the UIC Senate passed a proposal from the Graduate College for UIC to allow for the use of IELTS results for testing English competency in admissions decisions for international applicants, in addition to TOEFL. The proposal previously passed in SCEP and the Graduate College Executive Committee. As with the TOEFL iBT, applicants must achieve the minimum required scores in all four sub-sections as well as the total minimum score.
