Graduate Student Listserv

The Graduate College has three graduate student listservs:

  1. UICGRADS@uic.edu is a mandatory listserv for graduate students within the Graduate College.  Subscription information is maintained and handled by the Graduate College. You will automatically be subscribed.  Important deadlines, events and workshops are announced on this list.
  2. GCGRADFUNDING@uic.edu has frequent posts on opportunities to obtain external funding (fellowships, scholarships, research opportunities, etc.), internship information, or sometimes on-campus employment opportunities. You will automatically be subscribed. You may request to be removed as a subscriber by emailing the person who posted the notice to the list that you received.  Please state the reason for the request.
  3. GRADLIST@uic.edu is available for graduate students to communicate to each other across disciplines. Students can post information or have discussions about any appropriate topic. You are encouraged to subscribe.

To subscribe to GRADLIST

  • using your UIC email account (yournetid@uic.edu), send an email to listserv@listserv.uic.edu
  • in the body of the message type: subscribe gradlist first_name last_name (replacing your name for "first_name last_name")

If you would prefer to receive a digest (usually once a day, if there are postings that day) of emails

  • using the email account that is subscribed to the list, draft an email to listserv@listserv.uic.edu
    • you must send the above email from the email you originally used to subscribed to the list, which is either your official "yournetid@uic.edu" email or your official UIC GMAIL email.  Sending the command from an email address which is not on the subscription list (e.g. the email account you may have forwarded your official UIC address to) will not work.
    • if you have forgot the password to your UIC email, visit the Academic Computer and Communication Center's Password Changing Utility web-page
  • leave the subject header empty
  • the body of the message should have the following command: set gradlist digest

Note: This is recommended for those who may be annoyed receiving multiple emails about topics for which you have no interest, such as selling cars, etc..

To remove yourself from the GRADLIST (unsubscribe)

  • using the email account that is subscribed to the list, draft an email to listserv@listserv.uic.edu
    • you must send the above email from the email you originally used to subscribed to the list, which is either your official "yournetid@uic.edu" email or your official UIC GMAIL email.  Sending the command from an email address which is not on the subscription list (e.g. the email account you may have forwarded your official UIC address to) will not work.
    • if you have forgot the password to your UIC email, visit the Academic Computer and Communication Center's Password Changing Utility web-page
  • leave the subject header empty
  • in the body of the message should have the following command: signoff gradlist

NOTE:  Do not send any of the commands listed above to the listserv (i.e. GRADLIST); send them to listserv@listserv.uic.edu.
