Application Fee Waiver Programs
CIC FreeApp
The CIC FreeApp program is designed to expand participation of underrepresented students in graduate education. Through this program, prospective applicants can apply for a graduate application fee waiver. Once approved, participants are still required to complete the UIC Graduate College application and indicate they qualified for the CIC FeeApp.

Project 1000
Project 1000 is a national program created to assist underrepresented students applying to graduate school. Students may apply to up to seven of the over 70 participating Project 1000 institutions by using one application. Participation is free of charge to individual students and to the participating institutions.

McNair Scholars
The Graduate College offers application fee waivers for McNair Scholars applying to graduate degree programs at UIC. Applicants must complete the UIC Graduate Application indicating that they are applying for the McNair Program fee waiver in Question #30: "Qualify for a McNair Program Fee Waiver", on page 10 of the application. The graduate application must then be forwarded to the admissions office at the address on the application. It is important that a verification letter must be sent along with your application to Graduate Admissions Office and to the McNair Program Office at UIC. This will provide additional assurance that the fee waiver is provided to the applicant in a timely manner.
Verification Letters
The McNair Program Director or Coordinator should write a letter that verifies the student’s participation in the program at the undergraduate institution in which the student participated in the McNair Program. All verification letters must be written on program/university letterhead and should contain the following information: student's name, undergraduate major and the name of the graduate degree program to which you are seeking admission.
Applicants who are completing the on-line graduate application must also send a copy of the verification letter to the address below.
